Book Release Party at Caring House in Durham, NC Pam Leight and Terri Schinazi, two of the authors of the recently published book Finding the "CAN" in Cancer, celebrated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a book release party at the Caring House in Durham, NC. The event took place on Friday, October 14th at 6:30 pm at the Caring House, located at 2625 Pickett Road in Durham. Caring House is a special place that provides adult cancer patients and accompanying caregivers with a comfortable, supportive, and affordable place to stay during outpatient treatment at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. The authors of Finding the”CAN” in Cancer are currently or were patients and/or volunteers at the Duke Cancer Patient Support Center. The late Nancy Emerson, a noted motivational speaker and cancer spokeswoman, joined friends Pam Leight of Durham, the late Susan Moonan, and Terri Schinazi of Oxford to create this unique book. They emphasize how a positive attitude and outlook can transform one of the greatest difficulties one can face into a path to personal fulfillment and service. The book stresses that for all the physical and emotional difficulties of cancer and its treatment, there is an upside. The release party celebrated Finding the "CAN" in Cancer and its goal of assisting cancer patients, including those with breast cancer. A reception was held for doctors, nurses, friends and supporters. The authors also had books available for signing. Finding the "CAN" in Cancer was written by cancer patients for cancer patients. The authors’ own compelling stories and experiences are intertwined with accessible knowledge of medical procedures and treatments. The authors are devoted to the betterment of the lives of cancer patients, their families, and friends; the book is currently available at only the cost of printing. It is the authors’ sincere hope that Finding the "CAN" in Cancer ultimately will be available to any cancer patient who might need it. |
